I’m Irene B. Smithi. I have unique interests in areas that make most people uncomfortable. From my Scorpion and Tarantula collection, to my love of curiosities, as well as my interest in what is considered Taboo in the American culture. There is no doubt that I was born and raised as American as baseball and apple pie. I grew up on country music greats like Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson… however I’ve changed over the years. I find that I’ve gravitated to darker styles of music that inspire me and let my mind wander.
I started out sculpting in Polymer Clay. It’s a fun material that easily satisfies my need for extreme texture and details, followed by layering of paints to get my desired appearance. Truly, it’s just great fun to work in!
At some awkward point, I decided I wanted to work with a new medium, just to try something else and bone fit the bill. It’s a fantastic material! You just can’t get more natural or down-to-earth than bone. Each bone that I work with entrances me. While working with it I am free from the mundane aspects of being an urbanite. How do my designs come to me? I spend time admiring the bone, researching and contemplating what would most benefit each particular specimen.
I do some pure carving, but I will do a mixed medium as well. I work with animal bone, and fell in love with the beauty of human bone. Nothing makes a person reflect on who they are, and where they are in life, better than holding a real human bone in their hands. I carve, fill and paint in the human bone. It’s a wonderful reminder to value the beauty and miracle of life.

Human bone is legal to own. I purchase mine from online stores that sell them for art, medical and dental use. I will sell all human bone with the medical and dental use information disclaimer. I believe that there are some limitations as to where they can be shipped, that being the case I will ship in the United States only at this time. As I find more information on where they can or cannot be shipped I will share it here. I can not ship any human bone art to New York, Georgia or Tennessee. All other forms of art I can ship to the above states.
